Like Water for Chocolate

The phrase "like water for chocolate" comes from the Spanish "como agua para chocolate." This phrase is a common expression in Spanish speaking countries and was the inspiration for Laura Esquivel's novel title (the name has a double-meaning). In Latin American countries, such as Mexico, hot chocolate is made not with milk, but with water instead. Water is boiled and chunks of milk chocolate are dropped in to melt. When someone is "like water for chocolate," it's comparable to saying "they're at the boiling point," because that's the point water has to be at to make the hot chocolate.

이 영화의 원작소설이 "달콤쌉싸름한 초콜릿"이라니. 느낌이 달라도 많이 다르구나. 원제를 살리려면 '비등점' 정도가 되어야하는데, 그렇게 되면 갈등에 초점이 맞춰지는 반면, 뭔가 있어보이는 멋지구리한 느낌은 사라지고 만다...
